Singing Hymns at Calvary Baptist Church | 07/18/05
Calvary Baptist Church is in Alford, PA, a once busy little town near State Route #11 between New Milford and Kingsley. The train station, post office, general store and hotel are all empty or gone entirely, but there is still a small group of houses and a country church with a loyal congregation.
Last year the church was flooded after steady rain backed up in neglected railroad culverts and poured into town. The small congregation was faced with the possibility of closing the church, but managed to rebuild and on July 17 celebrated that accomplishment. The Pastor, Walter Sears, and his congregation graciously invited me to photograph what was for them a special occasion.
